The Bugis-Malay or Buginese-Malay also known as Peranakan Bugis, are a cultural and ethnic group with heritage rooted in both Malays and Bugis/Buginese communities, typically comprising individuals of mixed Malay and South Sulawesi ancestry. This group descends from multiple waves of migration from South Sulawesi, particularly to Johor and Riau Archipelago, as well as Selangor, Singapore and other areas, between the 17th and early 20th centuries. These migrations, which took place from the 17th to the early 20th centuries, led to the establishment of significant Bugis communities in regions such as Johor, Riau, Selangor and Singapore. Over time, the Bugis integrated into local Malay societies, contributing to the region's political, economic and cultural development.
