Google Labs

Google Labs is an experimental technology initiative developed by Google to create, test, and publicly demonstrate new products and features. Originally launched in 2002, Google Labs served as a platform for early-stage experiments and hosted preview versions of products such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Wave. The original service was discontinued in 2011 before the Labs branding was revived in the 2020s for experimental artificial intelligence and emerging technology projects. Google described Labs as "a playground where our more adventurous users can play around with prototypes of some of our wild and crazy ideas and offer feedback directly to the engineers who developed them." In 2023, Google revived Labs during the annual Google I/O keynote as part of the company's broader expansion into generative artificial intelligence products and experiments.
